Preview: Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona – Clash of Title Rivals in La Liga
March 31, 2025
Sunday evening promises fireworks at the Wanda Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid host Barcelona in one of the most pivotal matches of the La Liga season. Just one point separates the two giants, with Barça sitting top of the table and Atletico close behind in third. Both sides come into the clash following midweek European action, and with the title race heating up, every point is crucial.
TEAM NEWS

Atletico Madrid will be without Angel Correa due to suspension, while key midfielder Koke remains a doubt. Rodrigo De Paul, who picked up a knock in the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, is expected to feature. Diego Simeone might make a minor tweak with Nahuel Molina replacing Marcos Llorente, but Conor Gallagher – in fine form – is set to start again.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are still missing long-term absentees Marc Bernal and goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. However, Andreas Christensen could return to the squad, and Hansi Flick faces tough choices in defence and midfield. Dani Olmo may start ahead of Gavi, and the front three of Yamal, Raphinha, and Lewandowski is expected to remain unchanged.

Prediction

This is a battle of contrasting strengths: Atletico’s fortress-like home form versus Barcelona’s superb away record. Although Barça have the momentum, Atletico’s intensity at home could level the playing field. We’re backing a tightly-contested draw at the Wanda.
